Chiropractic:
Chiropractic is a global body treatment that is used to ensure optimum communication between the nervous system and the rest of the body. Chiropractic care focuses on working with the nervous system so the body’s self-healing abilities are working efficiently and effectively once more. This is achieved by restoring the alignment (and, in turn, proper biomechanical function) in the spine and the extremities.
Spinal misalignments can produce neurological distortions which will reduce the body’s ability to function properly, maintain itself, and heal itself naturally. Another way spinal misalignments occurs is, when a spinal joint is misaligned (even subtly), dysfunctional movement of that joint occurs which leads to surrounding soft and hard tissue structures compensating to try to keep the joint functioning. Over time, these compensations for the dysfunctional joint could lead to other joints in the body becoming compromised.
By correcting these spinal misalignments (subluxations), proper neurological signaling is re-established and the joint moves appropriately once one. With the joint moving correctly, compensation by surrounding soft and hard tissue structures is no longer necessary and they are able to go back to normal, functional movement patterns.
The chiropractic techniques offered at New Day Wellness are primarily Activator and Thompson. Styles are modified based on patient’s needs and preferences.
CranioSacral Therapy:
CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the physiological body system by working with tissues surrounding the central nervous system.
According to the Upledger Institute International:
“CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a light-touched approach that can create dramatic improvements in your life. It releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction, and improve whole-body health and performance.” (Upledger Institute International).
The central nervous system influences a person’s overall health and well-being. It plays a role in all other bodily systems. And the central nervous system is heavily impacted by “the craniosacral system – the soft tissues and fluid that protect [a person’s] brain and spinal cord” (Upledger Institute International).
Our body is built to handle and compensate for daily stresses and strains that come from living. But it can only handle these stresses up to a certain point. Too much stress and strain can cause tightening of the soft tissues to the point that the central nervous system is functionally compromised. This, in turn, can compromise other systems in the body. (Upledger Institute International).
By releasing these tensions in the soft tissue, the body is able “to relax and self-correct.” (Upledger Institute International).
This technique is performed while the client is fully clothed and lying on a massage table.
Therapeutic Massage:
Massage therapy is the manipulation of muscles and other soft tissue structures. It is a global body treatment that focuses on the tension soft tissue structures, specifically skeletal muscles and fascia, enact on other soft and hard tissue structures such as bones, other muscles, fascia, circulatory vessels, and nerves.
If abnormal tension is occurring in the body, it can cause imbalances in the tension between soft and hard tissue structures which can lead to dysfunctional changes in the body. These dysfunctional changes can result in abnormal biomechanics which lead to increased risk of injury, decrease oxygenation of cells, and decrease function of the various body systems.
By restoring appropriate tension in the soft tissues affected, this corrects imbalances between soft and hard tissue structures, which can lead to proper function in biomechanics which lead to a decreased risk of injury, increased oxygenation of cells, and an increased function of various body systems.
The therapeutic massage techniques offered at New Day Wellness are primarily acupressure, deep tissue, myofascial, and reflexology. Styles are modified based on patient’s needs and preferences.
Massage therapy helps a person address soft tissue issues to bring balance back to the body. Chiropractic helps a person address hard tissue issues to bring balance back to the body. In one person, some joints can be the primary cause of a person’s dysfunction which in turn causes tension and nodules in the muscles surrounding it. In that same person, some muscles can be the primary cause of a person’s dysfunction which in turn causes subtle misalignment in the surrounding joints. By combining massage and chiropractic care, the patient will have primary soft and hard tissue dysfunctions addressed and resolved, increasing the chances of resolution of the patient’s complaints.
